World’s largest rodeo fast approaching
Don Nichols “Cowboy Don” serves on the speakers bureau of Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. He recently spoke to Baytown Rotarians about the upcoming 20 day event which will be held Feb. 27 through March 17, 2024.
He mentioned dates to remember this year:
Feb. 23 is the Houston City Hall Rodeo Roundup
Feb. 22 through 24 is the barbecue cookoff. Feb. 23 is Go Texan Day so wear your western duds. Feb. 24 is the Rodeo Run wheelchair run, 5- and 10-K run and the 10 a.m. parade.
Nichols says Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has given $600 million to Texas youth and education since its beginning in 1932. The speakers committee was formed in 1970.
There are over 35,000 volunteers each year during the event. For more information, visit rodeohouston.com.

Win a car at Rotary's Shrimp & Catfish Festival

The Rotary Club of Baytown will hold its annual Shrimp & Catfish Festival Saturday, May 4 at Baytown Community Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This new location will feature all the same fun activities for children in the courtyard between City Hall and the Community Center. Meal tickets are under way at $15 per meal, which will include fried fish, boiled shrimp, French fries and all the fixin’s. Two meal tickets are included in each raffle ticket sold at $100 each. Dr. Tom Kelchner received the David Kadjar Dedicated Service Award from Past President Marc Pinney for his service to the club. Kelchner is District 5890 Governor Nominee scheduled to serve as governor in 2025-2026.
Paul Wankowicz received the New Rotarian Award from Past President Marc Pinney for immersing himself in club service since he became a Rotarian this year.
